Le Graphique
Joico 2010
Vol. 1

Joico International Artistic Directors Damien Carney and Sue Pemberton have taken The Art of Hair to the boldest place it has ever gone before: the fantastically beautiful, utterly unique world of Le Graphique.

Inspired by a harmonious juxtaposition of light and dark, soft and hard, extreme elegance and madcap whimsy, Carney and Pemberton combined classic cutting and coloring principles and artistic ingenuity to create a strong, linear framework for vivid color.

With its sharp, graphical lines and bold, contrasting color palettes, Le Graphique manages to be both artistically inspiring and perfect for the modern salon client.

LE CUTS
Joico International Artistic Director Damien Carney crafted a collection of four face-framing haircuts that create the illusion of a perfectly oval face and define the facial features.

These cuts were executed in concert with Pemberton to enhance the fluid movement and sharp contrasts of the color techniques depending on how the hair is styled.

Carney combined J-Cutting’s principal concepts in an unexpected and sometimes disconnected fashion, resulting in shapes that are elegant, bold, and timeless.

To unearth the versatility of his designs, Carney relied on Joico’s Design Collection, an innovative collection of layerable, workable styling formulas that allow stylists to sculpt hair into wearable art.

LE COLORS
Inspired by an innovative use of color and graphical shapes, Vero K-PAK Color International Artistic Director Sue Pemberton combined various levels and intensities of Vero K-PAK Color shades and placed them against contrasting bases.

For Vol.1, shades of gold, copper, cool red, and purple were set against a contrasting red base with soft highlights and against a copper base with stronger highlights, resulting in color that is at once seamless and graphical.

For Vol. 2, shades of blonde, lavender, and blue were set against a blonde base with softer, more pastel highlights and against a brunette base with more vivid highlights to expose a glacial interpretation of the color technique.

Pemberton expertly adapted J-Color’s Diagonal Foil Placement technique, allowing each look to take on a completely unique personality.

IN LUTENS’ WORLD… Dreamy muses have a sort of angular, porcelain beauty that is neither Eastern nor Western, but simply otherworldly… Long, slender bodies in seamless black contort into elegant shapes resembling notes on a musical masterpiece… Playful accents, in the form of colorful pops of makeup, intricate laces, and skyscraping hats, punctuate the glacial perfection… A state of cool, detached amusement is never-changing
